WHERE TO LIVE?

Most IEC students live with host families in safe, affordable, and quality housing accommodations, known as homestays, or they live in apartments near the campus.  By choosing to live with a host family, you have opened the doors to a wonderful sharing of cultures.  Host families are friendly, interested in cultural exchange, and they look forward to welcoming an international student in to their home.  Living in a homestay offers the student the best opportunity for academic success in their new country, and provides them with a full-time English-speaking environment, as well as first-hand exposure to the American culture.  All host families have been carefully selected and prescreened by Diablo Valley Homestay (www.diablovalleyhomestay.com).

Homestay students are provided with:

  • A furnished, private bedroom, including all bedding linens and towels
  • Two meals per day (breakfast and dinner), Monday through Friday.  Three meals per day on Saturday and Sunday. (If the family is not going to be home during mealtime, food will be available in the home for the students to prepare themselves)
  • A clean, comfortable, and safe living environment, and the added security of being part of a family
  • All household utilities are included in the monthly homestay rate, except for telephone and Internet expenses, which are the responsibility of the student. (Your host family and Diablo Valley Homestay can assist you with this matter)

Students pay their host family $750 per month, and also pay a one-time $300 refundable security deposit to the host family when they move in to the homestay.

If you would like to live with a host family, please follow the 3 steps below:

  • Download and fully complete the Homestay Application Form for IEC@DVC students.
    1. Download and sign the Host Family Housing Policy.
    2. Send the completed Homestay Application, signed Host Family Housing Policy, and a $300 homestay placement fee to the attention of Fia Parker, Diablo Valley Homestay.  Payment and mailing details are on Page 2 of the Homestay Application.  As soon as your completed materials have been received, the homestay placement process will begin.

Note: If the student is under age 18, please also sign and return the Liability Release for Underage Students form.

For more detailed information about host families and homestay living, please visit www.diablovalleyhomestay.com, or contact Fia Parker at fparker@dvc.edu

Most students enter their homestay 1 – 3 days prior to the beginning of the program, which is usually on a Friday (except for holidays).  If a student needs housing prior to three days before orientation, please let Diablo Valley Homestay know immediately.  If a placement cannot be made for a student arriving prior to three days before orientation, Diablo Valley Homestay will be happy to assist the student in making a reservation at a nearby hotel (students pay for hotel expenses).

Questions? Ask Fia Parker.
