October Bridge Program

Fall Bridge Program

As an international student, our Fall Academic Bridge Program at IEC will give you the academic skills and personal confidence you need to start your Bachelor degree at Diablo Valley College (DVC). The Academic Bridge Program is designed to allow you to successfully transition from study outside of the USA to a full-time academic program. The BRIDGE includes 2 pre-selected academic courses which give you 6 units of university credit that are transferable and count towards your four year Bachelor Degree at all the California State and University of California campuses. Not only will you get a head start on your Bachelor degree, but the 6 week Academic Bridge Program also includes:

Study Sessions: Each Academic Bridge course includes a study session that students attend for additional assistance, study techniques, and tutoring with their in class work and homework assignments. Study sessions are proctored by highly trained teacher aides who work closely with the Academic Bridge course instructors. Study sessions are a fundamental part of the Academic Bridge Program and attending study sessions ensures student achievement.

Academic Success Series Seminars: Once a week students will have an hour long Academic Success Series Seminar focusing on keys to student success at the DVC and beyond. Academic Success Series Seminars are presented by DVC staff, faculty, and international student alumni. Past topics have included Time Management, Transferring from DVC, Researching Out-of-State and Private Universities for Transfer, DVC International Student Club and the Importance of Being Socially Involved On-Campus.

Campus visits: Campus tours in the San Francisco Bay Area can include UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and San Francisco State University.

Pre-registration for DVC Fall or Spring semester classes: Students who are admitted into the bridge program are given the opportunity to complete the online academic orientation and register for classes for the following semester early. Assistance is provided by IEC and ISAS staff as well as the DVC International Student Academic Counselor.

Activities: The Academic Bridge Program is not only about studying and learning, but there are many social activities included. In the past, activities have included tours of San Francisco, Sacramento, Napa Valley, Santa Cruz, Yosemite National Park, as well as Free Movie Days, Laser Tag, Bowling, Swimming, Hiking, and many more.
