Medical Insurance Requirements
All international students must have medical insurance while they are studying in the USA. By the first
day of class (the first school day following orientation), all international students must either purchase
insurance through IEC or show written proof that they have their own insurance.
- a. During 2011, students pay $145/session for insurance purchase through IEC. The insurance coverage starts on the first day of class (not orientation) and ends on the last day of a session. We highly recommend students purchase travel insurance that covers them from arrival through the first day of class.
- b. If you would like to use you own insurance, you must provide a copy of your insurance card and coverage certificate in English. The coverage must meet our minimum requirements.
Mandatory medical insurance minimum requirements are as follow:
- 1. Medical benefits, a minimum of $50,000 U.S. dollars per accident or injury. (We strongly recommend a minimum of $250,000.)
- 2. Rescuers insurance minimum limit is $10,000 U.S. dollars.
- 3. Repatriation/Reunification minimum limit is $7,500 U.S. dollars.
Your policy or certificate must include the following information:
- Policy number, insurance company.
- Effective date, expiration date.
- Limits and coverage necessary to meet the minimums.
